:: Biography ::
Please see the profile of Fred and his work in InMenlo magazine.
In a career spanning 30 years in photojournalism, I have had the pleasure of contributing to numerous magazines and newspapers around the world. I have no plans to give up my day job and still look forward to accepting many more Northern California assignments covering the people and events from the major metropolitan areas of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose to the wine country of Sonoma and Napa Valley and to the high tech engine of innovation that is Silicon Valley. I hope to continue visiting these new places and documenting their stories in the intimate and graceful way that photography allows. In addition to my editorial photography, beginning in 2008, I embarked on a new and very exciting photo venture by introducing a portfolio of fine art landscape and nature photographs.
Having the good fortune to call the San Francisco Bay Area home and with its proximity to the Sierra, the great deserts, and the coastline, as a photographer, I am offered a magnificent opportunity to capture the diverse natural beauty of California through my lens. In contrast to the nature and landscape photographs produced from these travels, I have begun a second body of work, an intimate and macro look at the plants and flowers found in our own home garden. This collection of portraits is appropriately titled ‘Cindy’s Garden’, for my wife, whose love and encouragement has enabled me to pursue this wonderful endeavor. The process and satisfaction of seeking the ‘big’ picture from Yosemite National Park and the Eastern Sierra to Death Valley and to Big Sur on the Central Coast, is as gratifying as when I step into the garden in search of the ‘big’ picture from our small world.
To me, these galleries are a reminder that beauty is ever present…we simply have to look.
